Best Places to Go Shopping in Dublin

If you like to shop you’re going to love Dublin because there are so many great places to go shopping. From grand, famous department stores to small, local designer boutiques. International design icons to street markets.

It’s all here when you go shopping in Dublin.

Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre

Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre is the best-known shopping centre in the city and it’s right next door to the Fitzwilliam Hotel.

This is a Dublin landmark and we couldn’t get any closer to it if we tried.

Open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 9am to 7pm, Thursday, Friday and Saturday until 9pm, Sunday and Bank Holidays 11am to 6pm.

Powerscourt Centre

About seven minutes from the hotel, Powerscourt Centre is a haven of small artisan boutiques and galleries, eateries and designer stores.

It’s all pretty upmarket or, as you might say if you’re an American, fancy.

Open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 10am to 6pm, Thursday 10am to 8pm, Saturday 9am to 6pm, Sunday 12pm to 6pm.

Dundrum Town Centre

A short LUAS tram ride away is Dundrum Town Centre which is the biggest shopping centre in Ireland.

If you like shopping, and if you’re reading this you obviously do, then this is retail ecstasy thanks to some of the biggest names in fashion.

Open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 9am to 9pm, Saturday 9am to 7pm, Sunday 10am to 7pm. Restaurants and cinemas open much later.

Kilkenny Shop

Just down the road from us is the Kilkenny Shop. This is their flagship store and it is full of wonderful Irish and internationally designer creations.

For many years now it has been home to some of Ireland’s top designers.

Open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 8.30am to 7pm, Thursday 8.30am to 8pm, Saturday 8.30am to 6.30pm, Sunday 10am to 6.30pm.

Grafton Street

Synonymous with shopping, Grafton Street is the finest shopping street in Ireland.

It is located just beside the hotel and is home to big names like Ted Baker, Oasis, Cath Kidston, Massimo Duti and many others, both familiar and yet-to-be-discovered by you.

Most stores open at 9am all week and close at 7pm with late opening on Saturday and Thursday.

Kildare Village

Kildare Village is one of Europe’s busiest outlet shopping villages.

It’s a short bus ride away but well worth the effort because some of the world’s biggest brands are here with up to 60% off, including Armani, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Cath Kidston, Gucci and DKNY.

Open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 10am to 7pm, Thursday, Friday and Sunday until 8pm, Saturday 9am to 8pm.

Brown Thomas

Dublin’s famous and very elegant department store, Brown Thomas is just down Grafton Street from the hotel and is a very special place to visit.

Think of London’s Harrods but with an Irish accent.

Open Monday and Wednesday 9.30am to 8pm, Tuesday 10am to 8pm, Thursday and Friday 9.30am to 9pm, Saturday 9am to 8pm, Sunday 11am to 7pm.

Avoca

Also just down Grafton Street on Suffolk Street is Avoca Café and shop.

Incredibly popular amongst visitors and locals alike, Avoca is a treasure trove of Irish homemade food, clothing and crafts.

Open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday 9.30am to 6pm, Thursday and Friday until 7pm, Sunday 11am to 6pm.

Siopaella

Siopaella is Dublin’s designer exchange and you’ll find some extraordinary bargains in the store in Temple Bar.

Not only are there things here that are unavailable anywhere else, it’s also a fascinating place to just browse.

Open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 9am to 6pm, Thursday to 7pm, Saturday 10am to 6pm, Sunday 12.30pm to 5pm.

Francis Street

If shopping, for you, is not just about designer names, then go a little further afield to Francis Street which is where all of the great antique shops are.

It’s expensive, naturally, but some of the furniture, silverware and art is exquisite.

Most stores open at 10am all week and close at 6pm with late opening on Thursdays.

Nine Crows

Nine Crows is a really hip store in Dublin’s Temple Bar that sells vintage and own brand clothing. It has armfuls of great reviews on the web which suggests it is good. We’ve been there and it is.

If you’re looking for really good quality that won’t cost you a small fortune, then start here.

Opening hours are difficult to find so we’ll go with the norm for the city centre – Open at 9am all week and closed at 7pm with late opening on Saturday and Thursday.

Folkster

Another off-beat Aladdin’s Cave of fashion, Folkster features Shutterbug Vintage stock, shoes by Jeffrey Campbell together with lots of other interesting things.

A lot of Folker’s clothing has appeared on TV and in magazines worldwide so get in there.

Open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 10.30am to 6.30pm, Thursday 10.30am to 8pm, Friday 10.30am to 7pm, Saturday 10am to 6.30pm, Sunday 12pm to 6pm.

Public Transport

There is a regular bus service called “Aircoach” departing from Dublin Airport every 15 minutes from 10 past the hour. The nearest stop to The Fitzwilliam Hotel is Grafton Street, near Trinity College which is a 10 minute stroll from the hotel. An adult ticket costs €7.00 per person or €14.00 p.p. return. Alternatively a taxi will cost approximately €30.00. The taxi rank is located outside Terminal 1 on the arrival level. Travel time is approximately 30 minutes.
