Music on a Summer's Day- RDS Rising Stars

The RDS continues its series of lunchtime recitals by some of the most exciting young musical talent in Ireland today. This summer series features top chamber music groups with performers from the graduate classes of the DIT Music Conservatory and the Royal Irish Academy of Music.
June 7:
Formed in 2008, the DIT Chatham Saxophone Quartet was named after the street on which its members first met at DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama, Chatham Row. Each of the quartet's members is also active in composing and arranging new works for the group. The CSQ have recently been awarded the Galway Residence Apprentice Ensemble 2011 and are students at the DIT Conservatory where they receive coaching from Kevin Hanafin and the RTÉ Vanbrugh Quartet.

June 14:
The Brontë Ensemble (Rachel Du, Lara Sullivan, Rebecca Maybin, Sarah Joyce and Catherine McHale) is a string quintet formed by students from DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama, the Royal Irish Academy of Music and Trinity College Dublin. The ensemble receives coaching from the RTÉ Vanbrugh Quartet, Lecturers in Chamber Music at DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama. In 2010 the Brontë Ensemble performed at the West Cork Chamber Music Festival's Young Musician Platform recitals.

June 21:
The DIT Violin and Piano Duo comprises Elina Hakanen, violin and Aileen Cahill, piano.
Elina commenced her violin studies in Finland and is currently a final year student on the Bachelor of Music Performance programme at DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama. She leads the DIT Symphony Orchestra and receives regular chamber music coaching from the RTÉ Vanbrugh Quartet. Elina has won several competitions and has taken part in international masterclasses She has deputised with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra on several occasions. Aileen is currently a student on the MMus programme in Piano Accompaniment at the DIT Conservatory. She graduated with a MMus in Piano Performance with Dr John O'Conor in 2007. She has had many competition successes, winning the prestigious 'Most Promising Musician of the Year' cup and bursary at Sligo Feis Ceoil in 2003. Aileen has won the Hamilton Harty, Pigott, Milne and Piano Duet Cups. 2007, she was awarded the prestigious Maura Tessier Piano Bursary for further study.

June 28:
The DIT Guitar Quartet members are Morgan Buckley, Karl Byrne, Damien Kelly and Stephen McCann. They have studied with Dr. John Feeley and have appeared at the National Concert Hall and will be playing at the Boyle Arts Festival in July. They have taken masterclasses with guitarists such as John Williams, Manuel Barrueco and Carlos Bonnell. They also enjoy playing popular rock and jazz. They teach in NUI Maynooth, Mater Dei Institute, Dundalk IT and in private schools of music.
