One Fitz Year…Here’s What Happened in 2017

What's On/ 9 January 2018
Back to list

What a year that was: the Fitzwilliam Team had a busy, but fantastic, year with different things going on nearly every day in Dublin. Here are just some of the events, surprises, celebrations and things we did with our fabulous guests in 2017:

January – Goodbye Christmas and hello afternoon tea

As we called Christmas a wrap, we introduced a new menu for what has to be, without doubt, the best afternoon tea in Dublin. Nothing else is even close and the new menu was an instant classic.

February – Employee Of The Year and loved-up concierges

Gosia was crowned Employee Of The Year – no surprise to anyone who knows her – and our concierges got into the mood around Valentine’s Day with lots of suggestions for romantic things to do in Dublin and cosy restaurants.

March – A LOT happened including Dublin’s biggest day of the year

March was very busy for the entire team and not just because Dublin’s biggest day of the year falls on the 17th – St Patrick’s Day – but because we marked International Women’s Day by celebrating the wonderful ladies on the Fitzwilliam Team. Mother’s Day was a big deal, as always in Ireland, and there were some new faces on the Front Office Team too.

April – Hunting and running seasons started

Easter already and we held an Easter egg hunt around the city which was a big hit with our Facebook followers. A couple of weeks later our FIT-william Team hit the ground running in the Virgin Media Dublin Night Run.

May – Some new, some familiar, smiling, faces

In May we welcomed a new Guest Relations Manager, Alan, and thanked the ever-smiling Marisol on the Front Office Team who won Employee Of The Month.

June – A new menu and Father’s Day with our dads

In June our super-stylish Citron restaurant get a new Summer menu and we also celebrated Father’s Day with some of the dads on our team.

July – The fourth is always a big day here as is the return of our famous sons

The two biggest events in July were our celebrations of US Independence Day (we have a LOT of American friends) and the return of U2 who played just one night in Croke Park.

August – A sad departure and a very important meeting

In August two of our most popular team members left us to return to their studies in Austria. Then one of our special guests, Evie Mills, an avid Irish dancing fan who was injured in the Manchester bombing, met with some of the Riverdance cast who were performing around the corner in the Gaiety Theatre.

September – Time to meet the sister and get ready for Christmas

In September we ran a competition for one lucky couple to win a £500 shopping voucher and a night in our sister hotel, the gorgeous Fitzwilliam Hotel Belfast. We also started to get into the festive spirit.

October – World Smile Day and some creepy guests

Our Front Office Team are a happy lot on any day of the week so of course they were only too happy to mark World Smile Day. Then, to enter into the spirit of the season, we dressed up the hotel for Halloween.

November – Thanksgiving all over the place

Thanksgiving is now a popular annual event at the hotel, although Tony and the other concierges are used to getting thanks, all year round.

December – An elf on the loose and a great looking Christmas

In early December our Elf On The Shelf escaped from the hotel and took off around Dublin but we got him back thanks to our a couple of helpful guests. We also decorated the hotel in time for Christmas and it’s just getting better every year.

What a year – thanks a million to everyone on the Fitzwilliam Team who put so much work in. Thanks too, to our wonderful guests and don’t forget to follow us on Facebook where you’ll see all of the 2018 events as they happen.
