St. Stephen’s Green, Dublin

Many Dubliners consider St. Stephen’s Green to be the true centre point of Dublin because it’s such an important part of the city. Surrounded by Georgian buildings and two of the city’s best five-star hotels, it’s a gorgeous city park with a rich and interesting past.

A Brief History Lesson

There’s 400 years of history on our doorstep starting in 1663 when Dublin Corporation enclosed the centre of a marshy common and sold the land around it for building. In 1880 Arthur Guinness has the park redesigned and presented to the people of the city.

During the Easter Rising in 1916, a group of about 250 members of the Irish Citizen Army, including the legendary Countess Markievicz, held a position in St Stephen’s Green.

St. Stephen’s Green Today

Today our beautiful park is an oasis of calm in the very middle of a busy capital city. Filled with families feeding the ducks, office workers on a quick break and tourists admiring the great many important sculptural monuments to Irish history.

You’ll see locals taking shortcuts, school kids chasing each other, young couples sunning themselves on the lawns, you’ll soon see why time spent in St. Stephen’s Green is time well spent.
